Florida Composer Greg Vadimsky Wins Best Soundtrack Award
Melbourne-based composer Greg Vadimsky, best known for forming the hit pop/rock group Tango Palace, has won the Crystal Reel award for Best Soundtrack, from the documentary Secrets Of A Medicine Man. Greg has been performing, writing, arranging, and recording music professionally in the USA and England since 1979.
Though he has toured internationally, he says that the recording studio is where he feels most at home. The road is a wonderful place to grow as a musician, but if youre not careful, it can destroy your relationships and empty out your soul! He is reflecting back on his concerts with Spectre (the high-school band formed with his brothers Glen and Gary), Xciter, Leaky Caesar, Flipside, and most recently, Tango Palace, who did a mid-Western tour alongside the classic rock band Dokken.
Now his days are mostly occupied with composing and recording music for films and television. The documentary for which he won the award is heading toward the national networks now, and will air early in 2008. The soundtrack he produced features authentic native-American Indian instrumentation, and is very atmospheric and imaginative. He researched actual recordings by composers from native-American backgrounds, and says that this soundtrack really stretched his abilities. Not bad for a Jersey boy turned Floridian, to quote his description of himself.
The Crystal Reel awards are presented by the Florida Motion Picture and Television Association (FMPTA), and are judged by a prestigious board of professionals from all facts of the entertainment industry. Secrets Of A Medicine Man was produced by Nanette Fenton, who is also a past Crystal Reel award winner. This controversial film looks at Indian medicine man Billy Rainwater Barnes, who has assisted terminal patients in surviving against all medical odds with the use of natural preparations.
On the horizon for Greg are several films in 2008, a second album project with Tango Palace, studio productions for other artists, and a slew of live shows with his business partner (and drummer/vocalist) Brian Arnold as Greg & Brian. Together they formed Tango Palace Entertainment LLC in 2007.
